Weather vs. Efficiency

I was in the US on vacation last month. I am not a big fan of winter in general, so I was quite excited about the warm weather here by the time I was packing my bags to return to Dharwad. To my surprise and disappointment, Dharwad had become awfully hot and humid. In contrast to the nice tropical weather during the rest of the year, these few summer months are apparently unpleasant, to say the least.

There’s no doubt that this weather has affected both my work and health. I work on the 3rd floor which is the highest at my organization. After noon, it sometimes becomes impossible to stay there and work. The few fans that we have blow only warm air. After lunch, I feel very sleepy and tired because of the heat.  I can sense my efficiency level going down by every passing day. My work demands some traveling as I am doing a market research and also have to make a few field visits every week. But the intense heat and humidity doesn’t allow me to get things done like I used to.

I keep the fan on in my apartment at all times.  I take cold showers 2-3 times a day, but 10 minutes after each shower, I start feeling hot and sweaty again. I drink a lot of cold water, coconut juice and plain lassi (a yogurt-based drink) to keep myself cool. I wear light cotton clothes and carry an umbrella with me all the time. These efforts only help a little, however. I can’t wait for it to get cooler again.
