I have two forms of keeping in touch with home: phone and
g-chat. I talk to my family over the phone at least 1-2 week. With my friends,
I always connect with them over g-chat.
What I never will do is skype. People don’t need to see how skinny I
have gotten.
I like to know what’s going on at home, so I read up on the
news (latimes.com/ocregister.com).
Independent music is my life, so I always try to stay up to date on the
latest music. I usually will download podcasts of my favourite radio shows in
L.A to my “indie only music” I-pod and listen to them.
Recently, I have been making less calls to home, reading the
local U.S news and downloading podcasts. Once you get assimilated into the
culture, it begins to feel like home. You begin to follow what’s going on here
with news and culture. The beginning of the program was difficult because I
wanted to cling on everything “home”, but you eventually realize to let go and
embrace your new surroundings. I
recently made an exception for my “indie only music” I-pod. There is now an
Indian song in there.
